Ancient Forest Sangha of Humboldt Bay

A Practice Community in the Plum Village Tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh

Welcome Friends!

The Ancient Forest Sangha of Humboldt Bay is a Buddhist sangha (community) in the Plum Village tradition of Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (affectionately referred to as Thay (“Tay”) for “teacher” by his students).

We support one another by “taking refuge in the sangha”, and practicing Thay’s teachings on Buddhism and the art of mindful living together.

New friends are always welcome to join us, and we strive to be an open and inclusive community. We welcome respectful feedback that helps us identify ways in which we can be more inclusive and barriers to inclusivity in our sangha that we may not have recognized.

Gatherings: While we are dealing with the Covid pandemic in our county we will continue to gather via Zoom. We meet most Thursday nights, from 7-8 pm (60 minutes). If you would like to join our zoom sessions, please email us and we will send you the link.

We are pleased to have Dharma Teacher Alexa Singer-Telles join us once a month, usually the first Thursday, from 7-8:30 pm, also via Zoom. You can find the dates that Alexa is joining us by checking our calendar .

We do not hold a regular gathering on the fifth Thursdays and usually schedule an (outdoor) potluck when possible.  Contact us for information on location.

Once in person gatherings are again possible, we’ll meet at the Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship 24 Fellowship Way, Bayside  This location is wheelchair accessible. For in person gatherings we suggest that you review the gathering format before you join us, so you’ll have an idea of what we do.

Dana (generosity):  In keeping with the Buddhist spirit of offering the teachings freely, all are welcome to the sangha, regardless of ability to give time or money. Our presence and practice together is the most important thing; between all of us, the needs of the sangha will be met.  However, we gratefully accept donations to help with sangha expenses.  If you wish to support our sangha, dana checks may be made out to: Ancient Forest Sangha, and sent to PO Box 979, Eureka, CA 95502.

We also hold Days of Mindfulness (DOM) roughly twice a year, usually spring and fall that are open to all.  DOMs are led by Alexa (or another visiting Dharma Teacher in the Plum Village lineage) and offer an opportunity to spend 4-5 hours immersing ourselves in the dharma with dharma talks, songs, poetry, deep relaxation, dharma sharing, lunch in noble silence and other activities.  Bring lunch, water, a blanket or yoga mat for total relaxation and a cushion if you prefer to use one. Alexa will lead our next Day of Mindfulness on Saturday, October 16. Find more information, including how to register,  here
